The top 25 artworks of the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs (ANAC) annual conference are on display at the Sidney Public Library through Sept. 11. Gaje Vanbenberg has walked miles in the shoes of those contemplating suicide. A senior at Potter-Dix High School, Vanbenberg attempted suicide last fall. This weekend, he'll walk a 5K with others to help prevent suicide and bring awareness to the problem. Following the attempt, he was court-ordered to attend a rehabilitation clinic in Omaha that helped him turn his life around. It’s time again for the annual Scarecrow Contest sponsored by the Cheyenne County Ladies Chamber. Individuals, organizations and businesses from Cheyenne County can participate by making a scarecrow and displaying it on one of the assigned light poles along Highway 30. Cash prizes of $50, $35 and $15 will be awarded in each division, and judging will be based on originality, color, design and construction. Entries must contain some straw, corn shucks or raffia. Karen Sue Elliott, 72 of Sidney, passed away at her home Mon., Aug. 25, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Tues. Charles W. Wright, 88 of Longmont, Colo., passed away Sept. 3, 2014 at Longmont United Hospital. Charles was born on Aug. 17, 1926 in Moore, Okla. to Charles U. and Mabel (Meloy) Wright. Charles was raised in Moore and on Oct. 24, 1947, married Geneva Hutchison at the home of Geneva's parents in Tuttle, Okla. Charles was a family man and well loved by all.
