  • No Till Notes: 'It Works'

Mark Watson, Panhandle No till Educator|Jun 8, 2015

I’ve had several no-till producers around the Panhandle comment on how well their fields have taken in the record-setting moisture we received during the month of May. On our farm, we recorded 10.3 inches of precipitation during the month of May. I have talked to other producers in our neighborhood who recorded up to 1.5 inches more than we did on our farm. According to my moisture totals, we received roughly 13.1 inches of precipitation in April and May. Considering our yearly precipitation average is 15.2 inches that is a lot of moisture f...

    Stephen McKay, Sports Writer|Jun 8, 2015

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – With only about a day to prepare, not much effort was put into devising defensive schemes by either coaching staff in an effort to combat the deep level of talent on both sides in the annual Panhandle Prep All-Star Baskeball game. With locals Cody McKay of Leyton and Lane Harvey of Sidney suiting up, McKay’s Blue team scored 63 points in the second half to win 110-98 at WNCC’s Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff on Saturday night. Among the players on both rosters were some of the best recently graduated seniors in the Panha...

  • Sidney teams swept by Buckley

    Stephen McKay, Sports Writer|Jun 8, 2015

Despite signs of improvement from the two teams' previous encounter, the Sidney senior American Legion team's defensive lapses Sunday foiled any hopes the locals had of beating the Buckley Bombers,. Though Post 17 lost 10-1 in their earlier meeting last month, it narrowed the difference to 6-3 Sunday night at Legion Field, and seven errors compromised any chance Sidney had of claiming victory. The loss drops Post 17 to 2-6 on the year. Meanwhile the juniors (4-3) struggled to get going...

  • Sidney girls battle in All-Star tilt

    Stephen McKay, Sports Writer|Jun 8, 2015

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – After playing on the same side since they were kids, it was a strange sensation for twin sisters Ashley and Maddie Stafford and teammate Savanna Rosenbaum to suddenly be thrust into a position of opposition. Though Ashley took some bragging rights home from WNCC’s Cougar Palace after her Red team toppled the Blue 62-54, it’s a game built more around fun than serious competition. But for a group of recently graduated high school athletes, there’s always a little competitiveness bubbling beneath the surface no matter the sta...
