SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Regional West Hospice (previously Prairie Haven Hospice) is seeking volunteers to help patients and their families. The role of a hospice volunteer varies. It could mean staying with the patient for an hour while their caregiver shops for groceries, or maybe it’s simply being a calm and steady presence in an emotional time. Clerical and bereavement support volunteers are also needed. Opportunities also exist to use the unique skills that volunteers may have to offer. Every Regional West hospice volunteer receives free and co...

As the Union Pacific Railroad stretched its ribbon of steel across the Great Plains, "End of Track" towns sprang up faster than a desert flower after a spring rain. Although not near as pleasing to the eye as a cactus flower, the tarpaper shacks and canvas tent towns were an integral and thorny partner of the ever lengthening reach of rails and ties. These temporary towns served as delivery points for the needed railroad ties, spikes and plates, dynamite, and all other supplies needed by the...

I am sure most all of us have had times in our lives when we wondered if God was really hearing our prayers. There are so many life situations that can make us feel that way. Maybe a prayer, prayed for a long time seemingly goes unanswered, and even worse, God seems so far away. Perhaps a prayer, being prayed for a loved one in prolonged pain, might make one shout out an angry prayer to God. Perhaps a difficult prayer concern, that had been prayed over and over, leaves one not knowing for what else to pray. The above are just a few reasons we...
