    Anthony Ruiz|May 20, 2016

When Brent Jeffers came to Sidney in 1991 to become principal of North and South elementary schools, his first administration position, he expected it to be for only a short time before moving on. "I came here to be here for three years," Jeffers said. "In my line of work, you need to get some experience as an administrator, and I needed that experience so I could land another job in Colorado. As he grew a couple of years older, he made a deal with his Grandfather. “If you’ll sign the papers for me to get in the Navy, I’ll get a GED diploma.” Walt went to the recruiting station and once all the admin details were...

A Lincoln businessman has reached the summit of Mount Everest, making him one of the few Nebraskans to do so. Robert Kay, who owns Star City Motor Sports, reached the summit at 9:03 p.m. Wednesday, according to his wife, Patty Kay. She reported her husband’s progress on a blog that has followed his three previous failed attempts. “We’re very happy for Robert,” she said in a phone interview Thursday. “It’s been a goal for a long time for him.” Robert Kay’s third attempt to reach the summit of Mount Everest ended in April 2014 after an avalan...
