Local students from Sidney High School competed at the annual District Music Contest last week with instrumental and vocal performances at the Western Nebraska Community College Scottsbluff campus. Group instrumental and vocal ensembles received superior rankings. Division One, or “superior,” is the highest ranking an individual or group can receive at the contest. Pre trial continued to later date. Matthew Cleays, age 31 of Morrill, appeared for a pre-trial conference on a charge of DUI-D, a class W misdemeanor. Dress Down Day funds were awarded to Post-Prom Committees for areas schools. Post-prom parties were available to students as a safe activity for them to do after prom. Earlier this week the Baltimore Orioles played in front of an empty stadium. Somehow word leaked out that the O’s beat the Chicago White Sox, 8-2. Because of the unrest in the city after the death of Freddie Gray in police custody and the violence that followed, the decision was made to play a major league baseball game in front of an empty house for the first time in history.
