  • Sweet tooth bandit alledgedly returns to the scene of the crime

    Caitlin Sievers|Jul 17, 2013

One trip to the concession stand apparently couldn't satisfy an alledged burglar with a sweet tooth. James Russell, a 20 year old Sidney man, was arrested in connection with a break in that apparently took place sometime on the night of July 15 at the Legion Park concession stand. Russell was previously arrested and charged with theft of candy and soft drinks from the same location in June. At around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sidney Police responded to a report of a burglary at the Legion Park baseball...

  • Sidney officials proud of state's high marks in recent polls

    Caitlin Sievers|Jul 17, 2013

Nebraska ranks in the country's top five states in two polls for quality of life and business-friendliness. Nebraska was named second most business friendly state by Pollina Corporate Real Estate, Inc., a national leader in corporate site selection. The state was also named number four for quality of life by CNBC because of its low crime, clean air and stress free lifestyle. "I think we're one of the leading business-friendly communities in a leading state," said City Manager Gary Person. Sidney and the state of Nebraska work in conjunction to...

  • Moving benefits

    Floyd Brandt|Jul 17, 2013

But I did it—my shirt drenched with sweat and my legs feeling lik...

    Jul 17, 2013

Cancer patients and their families face the unknown daily. Beyond the disease and its ravages, there are mounting expenses for treatment, endless paperwork from insurance companies—some families must even make the choice between groceries or medication. The Night of Hope was established in Sidney nearly a decade ago. The program supports those in Cheyenne County who have been diagnosed with cancer, raising funds and showing that the community cares. The group's Walk for Hope is held every year in August collecting donations to help with m...

  • Keeping Cool Kids going benefits the community

    Floyd Brandt|Jul 17, 2013

During the summer, working parents often struggle to find a safe place for their children to spend the day. Cool Kids and No Limits were founded in 2001 as summer and winter after school programs associated with the Sidney Public Schools. Started with a grant of $700,000 through No Child Left Behind, Cool Kids supervises elementary age children. No Limits, meanwhile, provides activities for middle school through high school students. Both programs offer tutoring, field trips and outside...
