  • Annual city audit presented as council gears up for budget planning

    Ryan Hermens|Apr 23, 2015

As Sidney continues to grow – attracting new businesses and upgrading infrastructure – a recently released audit of the city’s finances reflects those expenditures and revenues. In late March, an accounting firm hired by the city presented its finding to city councilors. “They start about six months in advance of when they actually make the presentation,” Sidney City Manager Gary Person said in an interview earlier this month. “They’re very thorough. Every year they come up with sugge...

We are not ready for the next epidemic.” Gates pointed out that the Ebola virus killed 10,194 people in three west African countries this past year, but it could have killed far more. Gates said, “we were lucky that the Ebola virus did not spread through the air, and that...

  • Talking Sports: Double 'no-nos' pretty special feat

    Stephen McKay, Sports Writer|Apr 23, 2015

Eat your heart out Ernie Lombardi. There have been a few interesting local sports stories of note over that past week. Tuesday’s Peetz baseball game, which was played in front of no more than 20 onlookers, has to top the list. Congratulations to Peetz Bulldogs’ catcher Brian Roelle. How many baseball catchers – at any level – can say they caught two no-hitters on the same afternoon? It must be a pretty small club. In a doubleheader in Weldona, Colo., on Tuesday, Peetz pitchers Bradey Holtz and Cody Wilson each threw a no hitter as the Bulldogs...
