Sidney is among the top ten places to live in Nebraska, according to a blog by Movoto, a real estate research website. Movoto conducted a study of the 31 biggest cities in Nebraska to determine which were the best places to reside. The rankings were based on amenities, quality of life, crime, tax rates, unemployment, commute time and weather. It ranked Sidney number eight on the list. A local fourth grade class was surprised with a personal response and some free candy after reaching out to the company that produces Sixlets. When Judi Roach's fourth grade class began studying fractions with the help of Sixlets candy, the class discovered that the packets included varying amounts of candy. CASA held its annual Night of Music fundraiser on Tuesday. The concert featured 11 local acts performing everything from rock and country to opera. Several hundred fans turned out for the event, which aids the Cheyenne County chapter of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), an organization helping abused children. Ofelia S. Chacon, 87 of Sidney, passed away at the Golden Living Center, Saturday morning, March 29, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sat. April 5th in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Father Art Faesser officiating. No Wake services are planned. Services will conclude at the Church. Cremation will follow the services with graveside inurnment in the Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Leonard Benzel passed away March 31, 2014 at the age of 81. Leonard was born September 11, 1932 in Mitchell, Neb. to Carl and Mollie Benzel. Leonard was one of 14 children who grew up on a farm in Sidney. Leonard was a Sargent in the Army from 1954 to 1955 and married Claire Belle Koester on June 28, 1958.
