Brian Buescher grew up on a farm outside of Deweese but turned his attention to law while in college. He knows just how much Nebraska's farmers and ranchers love to tell lawyer jokes. "I've heard a ton," he said with a laugh. Buescher graduated high school in a class of 28. He studied law at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.-the only time he lived outside of the state, as he returned to focus on agribusiness litigation. "Being a farm boy I get to fight for farmers every day," Buescher pointed out. "They are in a tough spot when they...
Law enforcement arrested a local woman last week for assisting in her husband’s suicide and then hiding his body. A complaint filed by the Cheyenne County attorney’s office on March 28 charged Deann Kimble with assisting suicide and concealing human skeletal remains, both class four felonies. Kimble was arrested on March 26. On the morning of March 26, the Cheyenne County sheriff’s office received a tip that the unattended death of Russell Kimble might have occurred at the igloo storage units, about six miles west and two miles north of Sidne...

In the early years of the Industrial Revolution, groups of frustrated British textile workers began smashing machines meant to improve productivity. They had cause, mind you—at least in their minds. In the 1800s, waves of new technology send more and more laborers to the streets, where they were consigned to lives of crime, rum or other things fodder for the likes of Hogarth and Dickens. Men were losing lifelong jobs and they perhaps rightly blamed labor saving devices. Even the...
There was a time when Kate Woten was just an average high school track athlete. But then she got serious. Woten, a veteran of the 2013 NSAA Track Championships in Omaha and an honor-roll student at Potter-Dix High School, signed a letter of intent on Monday to study and run track at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D.
