Just in time for warm weather, the Sidney Legion Park Pond was stocked on Thursday with more than 400 pounds of trout. The pond is restocked by Cabela's and the City of Sidney each March, May and September. Eric Ketchum, a fishing and marine outfitter at Cabela's along with Brian Hahle from Pleasant Valley Fish Farm in McCook, released the trout into the pond with nets. Next week, the Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission will consider an application by a Colorado company to operate a saltwater disposal well in southwest Nebraska. Opal D. Thorpe, 98, passed away early March 18, 2015 at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab in Fort Collins, Colo. Opal was born in Champion, Neb. And was an 8th grade graduate from Imperial. She was a homeowner in Sidney for 48 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tues., March 24 in the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Freda Beyer, 97 of Sidney, entered into eternal rest early Sunday morning, March 15, 2015 at Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Wed., March 18, 2015 in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Father Jim Heitoff officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery. More than 150 Just for Kix dancers will take center stage at their annual Kix for Kids fundraiser show on March 22 at the Sidney Middle School gym. The Just for Kix program in Sidney began in 2008 and the Kix for Kids events started in 2010.
