    Caitlin Sievers|Mar 20, 2014

A public meeting held to discuss plans for a new city swimming pool brought forth quite a few concerns from Sidney residents about the type of pool and its possible location. Several members of city council as well as other members of the public attended the meeting, held on Wednesday at the city offices. “Probably from a city standpoint, what we can definitely afford to build is an outdoor pool,” Sidney mayor Wendall Gaston informed those in attendance. The city has allocated 30 percent of the new half percent sales tax that will be col...

  • Tales of a coffee-holic: Breaking bad news

    Caitlin Sievers|Mar 20, 2014

I have no patience for people who attempt to completely ignore the unpleasant things that happen in life. I totally believe that sensationalism in the news is wrong and that constant streams of stories about murders and explosions is not a fair representation of what’s happening in the world. But bad things do happen often and people need to know about it. I recently reconnected with a very close friend from high school on Facebook. We exchanged quite a few lengthy messages talking about what was new in our lives before I told her about some n...

Before being called to the large church on 11th Ave., Pastor Hyde was in St. Paul. He didn't even travel far for seminary, graduating in 1979 from a school in Denver. • Talking Sports: Season's greetings

    Stephen McKay|Mar 20, 2014

We made it! Today is the first day of spring, and even if the weather sometimes doesn’t reflect it winter is done. Come to think of it, if you’ve ever spent a sweltering August day in Washington, D.C., you just might not mind a little touch of winter. But still, I think most everybody’s favorite season is spring. Pro...
