  • Rising prices, expansion to affect county offices

    Top discussion items in preparation for yearly budget planning at Monday’s county commissioner meeting included more work for the clerk and assessor’s office, as well as the rising price of gravel for the highway department. Cheyenne County’s budget year runs from July 1 to June 30. County Commissioner Harold Winkelman commented that most departments seem to be staying within budget this year. County highway superintendent Tom Noel informed the commissioners that gravel prices were on the rise, and the county will have to deal with that issue...

    Anne Smith, 92 of Sidney, passed peacefully into the Lord's hands at 9:53 p.m., Sat., Nov. 9, 2013. She did so in the presence of her son Bob Smith, daughter Carole Tobler, and grandson Scott Tobler. Cremation has been held. Memorial graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Sat., June 7th in the Greenwood Cemetery with Father Art Faesser officiating.     The following person appeared in Deuel County Court on Friday, May 30, before the Honorable Randin Roland: Nicholas Swenson, age 23 of Minneapolis, Minn., appeared for jury trial on a charge of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, a class I misdemeanor. The jury found him guilty. The parties proceeded straight to sentencing where the defendant received a fine of $1,000 plus court costs.     Post 17 had to play without T.J. Garska for the season's opening two weeks. They found out Tuesday night it was well worth the wait. Thanks to a stellar pitching performance by Garska and strong hitting from Bradey Holtz and Scott Phillips, Sidney turned back Hershey Post 279 in Sutherland 8-1.
