The city approved the final plat for both the Cabela’s corporate office expansion and the Sidney Regional Medical Center addition. The yes vote by Sidney’s city council last week allows both projects to move forward to their next phases. Cabela’s plans to grade and develop a 27-acre section adjacent to the company’s current headquarters facility. While work will cover the entire plat, Cabela’s expects to build upon the land as needed. Members of Sidney’s school board approached the city council last week, hoping to share costs on projects associated with the new elementary building, should the measure meet with voter approval. The $16.95 bond issue returns to the ballot as part of the May 13 primaries. The school board hopes to replace three aging elementary buildings—North, South and Central—with a single, modern facility to house a growing K-4 population. Students at Sidney High School involved with Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) are raising money for the Night of Hope Foundation by selling tee shirts. Not just any shirts, but specially designed pink tees. Last Friday the FCCLA set up a booth during the Sidney basketball games with Chadron to take orders for the Pink Out shirts. Rose Marie Karnik 1919 to 2014 Rose Marie Karnik, 94, a longtime resident of Cheyenne County, died early Sunday morning, February 2, 2014 at Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care in Sidney. Sidney’s junior varsity and varsity contests scheduled at Perkins County will not be made up.
