  • County agrees on pay increases, discusses future workload concerns

    The Cheyenne County commissioners discussed how to fit raises for elected county officials into an increasingly tight budget at Monday’s meeting. The commissioners agreed on a base pay of $55,000 per year starting in 2015 with a 3 percent cost of living increase for the following three years. This decision was based on recommendations from the Nebraska Association of County Officials.   • Weekend crime wave includes theft, vandalism

    Break In The second costly tool theft in a month's span took place in Sidney last weekend. Sometime over the weekend, thousands of dollars worth of tools were stolen from the Lodgepole Creek Apartment complex work site on Fort Sidney Road. This equipment was stored in large trailers at the construction site. "When employees arrived at work Monday, they had nothing to work with," said Sidney Police Chief B.J. Wilkinson.     Aided by a hot shooting Jodi Schumacher, Peetz outlasted the Creek Valley Storm 57-53 in a non-district girls basketball game in Chappell on Tuesday night.     After a predominantly back-and-forth contest defined the first half, the Bulldogs (4-3) blew open a close game in the second half to win 83-45 over Creek Valley (2-6) in non-district boys baskeball action Tuesday night. Despite having to play without starting freshman guard Brett Godfrey, the young Storm team put up a strong fight in their home gym throughout the first half.
