  • County opts to name temporary surveyor

    Caitlin Sievers|Jan 7, 2014

Cheyenne County Commissioners appointed Donald Brush of Panhandle Land Surveying as temporary county surveyor at yesterday’s meeting. “What I’m needing is the duties of a county surveyor in Cheyenne County,” Brush told the commissioners. “I’ve had some clients that have requested some surveying.” Most of the time during land survey work, monuments marking the corners of property are in place and there are records which establish the edges of a property. Sometimes the corners of the property aren’t properly marked, Brush explained. “Whe...

  • From the editor: Going viral

    Dave Faries|Jan 7, 2014

H1N1 doesn’t do this year’s diabolical flu strain justice—two letters plucked from the alphabet and a single digit to describe a ton of lead slamming your helpless body repeatedly to the couch, nightmarish days without rest, the debilitating nights I probably didn’t take it seriously enough. After all, at least three decades had elapsed since I last engaged in battle with the dreaded flu virus. I was quite a bit younger back then—some 30 years, in fact—therefore presumably more able to fend off its advances. And that instance, if I recall, was...

  • Letter to the Editor: Larry Fraas of Larry's Clothing

    Jan 7, 2014

Since January 1, when we have driven or walked by Larry’s Clothing Store, it leaves us with some great memories, but also with a great deal of sadness. Larry Fraas has not only owned and managed one very fine men’s clothing store (and later women’s clothing), but he was a gentleman and also a community leader in so many ways. He has served on many boards, committees and service clubs, as well as being the “instigator” of the Gold Rush Days celebration. Many times he’s been seen on top of the downtown businesses in all kinds of weather putting i...
