    LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska’s rural communities received nearly $190 million in USDA Rural Development funding in federal fiscal year 2014, completed on September 30. In five years, USDA has invested nearly $1.5 billion in Nebraska, according to Rural Development State Director Maxine Moul. In the 19-year history of the agency, the funding total is nearly $2.7 billion in Nebraska.   • Traffic stop leads to arrest after 35 pounds of marijuana discovered

    KEARNEY, Neb. – A weekend traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Buffalo County led to the seizure of 35 pounds of marijuana and one arrest. Around 1 p.m. on Sunday, a state trooper stopped an eastbound 2013 Chevy Sonic for failure to maintain its lane, two miles east of the Minden exit on I-80. An NSP canine indicated to the odor of drugs coming from the vehicle. A search of the car led to the seizure of 35.4 lbs. of marijuana.     Average retail gasoline prices in Nebraska have fallen 5.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2 per gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 1,150 gas outlets in Nebraska. This compares with the national average that has fallen 5.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.12 per gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.     Nebraska Extension is offering the Master Gardener Training Program to provide volunteers with research-based horticulture education, which prepares them to share their knowledge with others in the community.     A Sidney man allegedly involved in a domestic dispute with a 16-year-old has had the charges reduced in the case. Scott H. Atkins, 55, was originally charged with making terroristic threats, use of a weapon and child abuse after the incident Nov. 28 at a residence in the 1100th block of 7th Avenue.     A 22-year-old Sidney man was sentenced on Wednesday to 20 to 60 months in prison for possession of methamphetamine. Javier Campos was sentenced Wednesday in Cheyenne County District Court by Judge Derek Weimer. Campos received the maximum sentence for the class IV felony. Previously.
