The City of Sidney will be closed on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day. All city departments will be closed including the landfill and the library. The Dial-a-ride bus and Stage Line bus will not be running. The Solid Waste Department will be collecting Monday’s trash on Tuesday and Tuesday’s trash on Wednesday. Court Appointed Special Advocates was the recipient of the March "Dress Down Day" funds. Cheyenne County CASA is a private, nonprofit volunteer organization that assist abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system. Peetz Cub Scout Pack #36 held its Blue and Gold Awards ceremony on last week at the Peetz Community Church. The Chad Nienhueser Memorial Scholarship is given to area high school students who will pursue a college education and have demonstrated leadership skills. Chad was a Sidney native majoring in civin engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City. This year's scholarship goes to Raine Gartner, Tanner Nienhueser and Joacob Peterson, all graduating seniors at Sidney High School. GERING – The Scotts Bluff National Monument will expand hours for the summer beginning this Saturday. To better serve visitors, the summer hours at the monument will be 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Summit Road will be open for uphill traffic from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. and the grounds will be open sunrise to sunset. At its monthly meeting, the South Platte Natural Resources District board of directors received an analysis review of the Western Water Use Management Model, commissioned to aid in determining the effects of actions on aquifers within the District. Table of Grace Food Pantry in Sidney has received a $2,000 grant to help meet the hunger needs of lower-income residents in Cheyenne, Garden and Deuel counties. The grant is provided through Farm Credit Services of America’s “Working Here Fund.” The Table of Grace Food Pantry provides food to residents of all ages within its 35-mile service area. Led by freshman Connor Dormann, the Sidney High School golf team won its first meet of the season on Tuesday at the Cozad Invitational. Dormann earned top medalist honors after he fired his best competitive round of the year with a 78 at the Cozad Country Club.
