The Fort Sidney Chapter of DeMolay has had a busy summer. While preparing for Conclave, the DeMolay Chapter had an outing in July at Lake McConaughy at the home of Randy and Tracy Miller for members and prospective members. The American Plains Artists has accepted artwork by J.I. McElroy of Gurley for inclusion in its 30th Annual Juried “Art of the Plains” exhibit and sale in Lincoln. The event will be held at the Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q St., Lincoln, from Aug. 7 through Oct. 24. Approximately 120 pieces of art from more than 80 artists from across the nation were accepted into this show. A single-vehicle crash in Wyoming last week resulted in the death of 34-year-old Sidney resident Daniel T. Poole. The crash occurred on July 29 at about 10:35 p.m. on Interstate 25 approximately seven miles south of Douglas, Wyo. Poole was the front-seat passenger in a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by his wife, 28-year-old Brittany Poole. Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality Director Jim Macy announced the awarding of $2,257,791 in grants through the Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive Grant Fund. The “Keep Sidney Beautiful” program received $5,600 as part of the program. It will be used for an electronics collection event for local residents. The South Platte Natural Resources District Board held its monthly meeting on July 15 and began with a presentation and slide show by Oliver Reservoir Recreation Area Technician Kent Matsutani, who discussed several upgrades to the recreation area.
