The 42nd annual Ed Dulaney Canoe Derby will be held Sept. 11-13 at the Bridgeport State Recreation Area. Founded in 1974by the late Ed Dulaney, a scoutmaster from Gering, the derby is one of the longest running scouting events of its kind in the nation. The Sidney Red Raiders made the long trip to Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte on Friday well worth the ride as they came home with the team title. A man who shot and killed a Sidney woman three years ago will be sentenced next month in Cheyenne County District Court on his first-degree murder conviction. The Nebraska Rural Electric Association's Job Training and Safety Coordinator Bob Cooper, along with the Wheat Belt Public Power District, held a dedication ceremony in memory of Don Winkelman on Thursday at Wheat Belt's linemen training field north of Sidney.
