The Cheyenne County Chamber recently presented the Friends of the Library with Dress Down Day Funds. This year, 230 children participated in the Sidney Public Library's Summer Reading Program, supported by the Friends of the Sidney Public Library. Upon successful completion, individuals received a $5 gift certificate from Dairy Queen. The Dress Down Day Funds helped defray the costs of the program. Sidney High School lost to Chase County in straight sets – 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 – in volleyball action on Tuesday. The Lady Raiders fell to 3-5 this season, while Chase Co. improved to 9-1. Sidney freshman Payton Jung recorded 13 kills and a pair of aces, while teammate Emily Mahr had 20 assists and 10 digs. The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce is holding its 18th annual Newcomer’s Social at Sidney High School on Thursday. FOR THE SUN-TELEGRAPH Theodore D. Medina, age 25 of Sidney, was sentenced Monday to serve the maximum possible term on two counts. On Sept. 8, Medina admitted to violating probation in two cases, according to Cheyenne County attorney Paul Schaub. Medina was found guilty of attempted assault in the 2nd degree, a class IV felony, and third-degree assault, a class I misdemeanor. Both verdicts were reached in 2013. Average retail gasoline prices in Nebraska have fallen 5.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.38 per gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 1,150 gas outlets in Nebraska. A Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Certification Workshop is scheduled for Oct. 10-11 at Scottsbluff. Oct. 1 is the registration deadline. The workshop will provide volunteers with an opportunity to become certified as an adult (21 years and older) or apprentice (14-20 years old) leader. The Creek Valley High School volleyball team crossed the border into Julesburg, Colo., on Thursday night and dropped a match in straight sets to the Sedgwick County Cougars in a non-district matchup. A car pursuit that started in Wyoming – and included a short standoff with police – ended near Sidney on Wednesday after state troopers used stop sticks to disable the vehicle.
