The Sidney High School One Act Play Production team finished fourth in the district contest held Saturday at Chadron State College. Even though the Raiders finished fourth, they had the most acting awards of any school competing at the Class B-6 District Play Production Contest. Dog tags for 2016 in the City of Sidney are now available and being issued to pet owners. The tags are available at the Sidney Police Department, located at 1715 Illinois Street. Owners must bring in a certificate of current rabies vaccination for each dog or a license will not be issued. The fee for an intact female is $11, and a fee for an intact male is $6. For the first time, irrigators will have the option to obtain their irrigation and nitrogen certificate through an online course designed to make it easier to complete the necessary training and achieve certification for the next four years. All irrigators in the district area will have until March 1, 2016, to complete their training and earn their certificate. The City of Sidney is in the beginning stages of addressing properties that are unsafe or dilapidated. Over the past several weeks, staff members from the city have conducted a survey of properties in Sidney, under the direction of Chief Building Official Brad Rowan, CBO. The purpose of the survey was to identify distressed, dilapidated, unsightly and unsafe properties. An investigation by emergency responders on Sunday evening turned up no gas leak after a county resident reported smelling natural gas. The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded to an area north of Sidney on County Road 111 shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday. Ron Leal, Region 21 Emergency Management coordinator, who was also on scene, said while the source of the smell was not identified, no gas leak was found. A single vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Bushnell in Kimball County claimed the lives of two Scottsbluff residents Thursday night. The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. near the Bushnell exit (mile marker 8) on I-80 in Kimball County.
