The Bulldog Baseball team traveled to Julesberg on Tuesday, April 25, to play two against the Sedgwick County Cougars. Freshman Rhyder Bayne took the mound for the Bulldogs after the Peetz squad took a 1-to-0 lead at the end of their half of the first inning. Bayne was able to keep the Cougars off the board, and in the top on the second inning, Peetz plated three more runs to give them a comfortable 4-to-0 lead. Mike Motz, Sun-Telegraph Sidney's Red Raider Track & Field teams had a busy week, competing at the Mitchell Invitational, the Kendra Roeder Invitational in Pine Bluffs, and the Don Bader Invite in Lexington. Mike Motz, Sidney Sun-Telegraph Potter-Dix's Coyote Track and Field teams traveled across the border into Wyoming to compete at the Kendra Roeder Invitational at Pine Bluffs High School. Both teams finished seventh in fields of 11 teams, and held their own against some of the toughest competition in the panhandle and eastern Wyoming area. Mike Motz, Sidney Sun-Telegraph Sidney's Red Raider Boys Golf team traveled to Gothenburg on April 20, battled windy conditions and a high caliber of competition, and finished their day placing eighth in a field of 15 teams. Ogallala took top honors with a team score of 350, followed with a tie for second place with McCook and North Platte each finishing with a 353 score. Mike Motz, Sidney Sun-Telegraph Creek Valley High School hosted the annual Tri-State Meet, and area schools all competed on a sunny day with a warm breeze. Spectators and competitors that did not liberally apply sunscreen, soon found that they had a good sunburn by the beginning of the afternoon. Mike Motz, Sidney Sun-Telegraph Sidney's John Beier had to wait a few extra weeks to get to play against his top rivals at his home course, Hillside GC. The wait was worth it for the defending B-4 District Champ and State Qualifier, as Beier used all of his knowledge of the course and skill to shoot a two-under-par 70, and take the Sidney Invitational Individual crown by four strokes, out of field of 50. Sidney's Red Raider Track & Field teams traveled to Gothenburg on April 13 to compete in the annual Dutch Zorn Invite, and the boy's team ended with a sixth place finish and a score of 46, and the girls team placed seventh, with a score of 42. There were many outstanding performances by the Red Raider boys, with junior Isak Doty placing second in the 100 Meters and 400 Meters. The challenging course, and a hot day, got the best of most of the area school's golfers, and the Sidney team managed a fifth place finish with a 347, edged out for fourth by a single stroke by Alliance with a 346. Although their lack of numbers kept them out of the running for team titles, there were individual performances that were noteworthy and show progress by the team. Mike Motz, Sidney Sun-Telegraph Local, county and state law enforcement and first responders raced to the scene of an accident at around 3:30 on Monday afternoon. About a half mile east of marker 66 on Route I-80, two tractor trailers slid off of the road during white-out conditions. The snow and ice accumulations on the highway made for treacherous conditions, causing both of these trucks to go off the road and down an embankment on the side of the highway. Mike Motz, Sidney Sun-Telegraph The Cheyenne County Commissioners met Monday morning, March 20, with a number of issues on their agenda. First, Montana Markus and Riley Rohm from Sidney FFA requested the waiving of fees for use of Fairground facilities during their Labor Auction and Banquet on April 29.
