    Elks Lodge 1894 in Sidney hosted an Open House and fund raising event on Saturday for the renovation project of the auditorium and building at 1040 Jackson Street in Sidney. Area residents were welcomed into the building and offered tours of the facility, including the upstairs balcony that is slated for renovations and the old city offices located on the second floor.     There was a party Saturday afternoon at Hillside Golf Club, and it was to celebrate the retirement of Dean Gipfert after 48 years of dedicated service to Wheat Belt customers in Sidney and throughout the area. Gipfert joined Wheat Belt back in 1975 when he was 18 years old, as an assistant warehouseman. Born and raised in Sidney as one of thirteen children, Gipfert said he never thought he would stay at the same company for 48 years.   • Sidney Regional Medical Center Breaks Ground on Extended Care Facility

    On Thursday, May 18, Sidney Regional Medical Center held its long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for its new Extended Care facility at the site of the Medical Center. The facility is funded through a combination of contributions to the hospital, construction financing from lenders and low-interest loans from the USDA's Rural Development initiative.     Sidney senior John Beier shot an 86 then an 82 to end up +24 for the Class B NSAA Golf Championship Tournament at Monument Shadows Golf Course last week, earning him 41st place overall. Senior Jaeden Dillehay shot an 88 then an 85 to finish +29 and in 55th place overall in the Tournament.     The annual Panhandle Prep Red/Blue All-Star Basketball games were held at Scottsbluff High School on Friday, May 26, and many of the area's graduated seniors got their last chance to play in high school basketball competitions.
