The Potter-Dix High School volleyball team continued to cruise through its competition this fall, winning two more matches on Monday evening. Playing on the road at the Garden County Triangular, the Lady Coyotes defeated the host Eagles 25-15, 25-9 and then dispatched Wallace in the nightcap 25-13, 25-17. Creek Valley High’s football team came up just short from collecting its first win of the season Friday night, falling to Morrill 38-20. The Storm (0-6) led 6-0 after the first quarter and 12-8 at halftime. The Peetz High School football team had little trouble cruising to a Homecoming victory on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs jumped out to a big first-half lead and sailed to a 64-8 win over Briggsdale. Both teams are now 3-3. Leyton High School’s Kordell Maestas had another big night running the ball as the Warriors won for the second consecutive week. Maestas rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries to help propel Leyton to a 40-22 victory over Hay Springs (1-5). An offensive explosion in the first quarter helped propel Garden County High School to a 70-26 victory over Potter-Dix on Friday night. The Eagles put up 46 points in the opening 12 minutes to remain undefeated at 6-0. Potter-Dix slipped to 0-6 on the 2015 campaign. A trip to the Paxton Triangular on Thursday afternoon could have presented at least one big test for the Potter-Dix High School volleyball team. Instead, the Lady Coyotes sailed to a pair of easy victories to improve to 16-2 this season. The City of Sidney will be observing the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, Oct. 12. All city departments will be closed, including the library, the landfill and both public transportation buses. Trash collection normally scheduled for Monday will be picked up on Tuesday and Tuesday’s trash will be picked up on Wednesday.
