A Garden County grand jury has determined there was no criminal actions connected to the September death of a Sidney woman, Candy Flood, while she was in the custody at the Garden County Jail. A Sidney skilled nursing center is being closed by the state. Residents and staff of Sidney Care and Rehabilitation Center were informed of the decision Wednesday by Ken Klassmeyer of Klassmeyer and Associates, the company that has been managing the center since last March. Sidney's Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire late Friday morning in the 2100 block of 22nd Ave. in Sidney. A Sidney teen has been recognized for earning the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts. At just 15 years old, Owen Kurz joins a group of high performing Boy Scouts from the area who have successfully met the requirements of Eagle Scout. Two Sidney families escaped injury early Wednesday morning when a fire broke out in adjoining apartments, gutting one.
