Sidney High School senior Jacob Spachek (center) worked toward earning his Eagle Scout rank Saturday at the Lodgepole Youth Valley Camp in Sidney. Teenage tobacco use has declined over the last decade, however, as local students are going back to school, the Panhandle Public Health District stresses the importance of parents talking to their kids about the risks of smoking. Construction continues on the Pole Creek Crossing and the Fort Sidney Road bridge in Sidney Wednesday morning. Girders for the Pole Creek Crossing bridge were set and the next step is working on the deck. According to Project Engineer Don Dye, fiber optic lines and utility lines prevented progress on the Fort Sidney Road Bridge until they were relocated. Chloe Cheneby, a 13-year-old battling a life-threatening metabolic disorder in Washington, fell in love with Birmingham, a 6-month-old Golden Retriever, Gordon Setter and Bernese Mountain Dog mix. The 2015 Night of Hope Cancer Walk brought locals to Sidney's Legion Park to celebrate and remember loved ones who have died of cancer, continue to battle and those who have overcome the disease. The annual Night of Hope Cancer Walk is a time for locals to remember loved ones who have died of cancer, but also a celebration of those who continue to battle the disease and those who have overcome it. Local author Cheryl Reich-Bills used her own life experiences to write a book about self-preservation and survival. "Split" is Reich-Bills' first book in a trilogy that covers the lives of several girls' lives over a 60-year period. The Sidney Police Department is asking for help in finding a 16-year-old male missing since Tuesday afternoon. Daniel Virgil, 16, has been missing since approximately 2 p.m., on July 28.
